The Meaning of Surah al Mulk
Al-Mulk/الملك”, is an Arabic word which means:
“The Kingdom”
“The Sovereignty”
Surah Mulk is the chapter of the Holy Quran that describes the authority and power of Allah. Only Allah is the Sovereign of the entire universe. This surah is the evidence of Allah’s wisdom, interpreting that every creation in the world belongs to Allah. Revelation Of Surah Mulk
Ever wonder why Surah Al-Mulk was revealed? Surah Mulk was revealed in Makkah, so it is included in “Makkan Surahs”. In this context, this surah was revealed to the Prophet (S.A.W) at the time when he was in the struggling phase of his prophethood.

Only Allah Is The Sovereign:
Surah Mulk starts with the testimony of Allah’s sovereignty.
“تَبٰرَكَ الَّذِيْ بِيَدِهِ الْمُلْكُ وَهُوَ عَلٰي كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيْرٌ“
“Blessed is He in whose hand is dominion, and He is over all things competent.”

وَلِلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا بِرَبِّهِمْ عَذَابُ جَهَنَّمَ ۖ وَبِئْسَ الْمَصِيرُ

Say, “Have you considered: if your water were to become sunken [into the earth], then who could bring you flowing water?”

Recitation of Surah-e-Mulk protects a person from the grave torment. The Holy Prophet (S.A.W) said that: “There is a surah in the Quran which is only thirty verses. The Holy Prophet (S.A.W) replied to him in Arabic, Yes: Surah-e-Mulk is ‘al-Manicah’, Surah Mulk is “al-Munjiyah.” Al-Manicah means that it is a Defender. Al-Munjiyah means that it is a Rescuer.
